UQM develops 150 kW propulsion system

Jun 21, 2007 11:39 AM

UQM Technologies has developed a 150 kW (200 horsepower) peak power permanent magnet propulsion system suited for high-performance automotive applications as well as heavy-duty commercial and military vehicles.

The propulsion system has a continuous power rating of 100 kW (143 horsepower), delivers peak torque of 650 N-m (480 ft.-lbs.) and continuous torque of 400 N-m (295 ft.-lbs.), and has a higher power density than earlier UQM propulsion systems. Other features include optimized four-quadrant performance, on-the-fly torque, speed and voltage control, and system energy efficiency of more than 90% over most of its performance regime.

"This system will allow us to pursue market opportunities for vehicle platforms with higher power requirements that we were previously unable to service," said UQM director of engineering Jon Lutz.
