Sony adds Xplod head units

Oct 3, 2007 4:47 PM

Sony has introduced four value-priced Xplod in-dash head units with 52 W X4 power output. They are the CDX-GT520, priced around $140; the CDX-GT420IP, $130; CX-GT320, $100, and CXGT120, $80.

The GT520 supports MP3 and non-DRM WMA and AAC codecs. It is also iPod, satellite radio and HD Radio ready; features front, rear and subwoofer preamp outputs; has a flip-down detachable faceplate; and a 13-segment, LCD with blue LED display; and blue key illumination.

The GT420IP CD receiver comes with an iPod control interface. A 4.9-foot cable with a 30-pin connector is said to provide full menu control. Selectable front and rear/sub preamp outputs can be used to control the frequency and output level of an external amplifier. Other features include MP3 and non-DRM WMA playback, red key illumination and a blue LED screen.

The GT320 offers iPod, HD Radio and satellite radio compatibility plus MP3 and non-DRM WMA playback support and two pre-outs. The GT120 CD receiver has one pre-out and a detachable faceplate with a blue 13-segment LED screen.

Each unit features an auxiliary input on the faceplate, facilitating the use of portable music players in a vehicle with a standard 1/8-inch mini jack cord. An RM-X151 wireless card remote is a $30 option for the GT120 and a standard feature of the other three units. The GT520 and GT320 require additional equipment for satellite radio, HD Radio and iPod compatibility. They work with an optional XA120IP iPod adapter (about $50) that charges the device and controls it from the head unit. Satellite radio requires a subscription.
