Nissan packs Bluetooth in CARWINGS telematics system

Jul 20, 2005 5:27 PM

CSR plc. said Nissan is using CSR’s BlueCore Bluetooth technology in Nissan's CARWINGS telematics system, which is provided by Xanavi Informatics Corporation. The CARWINGS system offers enhanced GPS and entertainment features as well as integrated hands-free. It’s available in the new Nissan Fuga luxury sedan, the Lafesta minivan, the Tiida Latio compact sedan and the Tiida and Note compact hatchbacks.

Bluetooth-enabled mobile handsets can connect wirelessly to the in-car system, making use of the hands-free capability and transferring downloaded applications and user information to the car unit. Users can also synchronize personal information including ID details, telephone directories and other contact information between a home computer, mobile handset and car system.

"The Japanese automotive market has recognized the convenience that Bluetooth brings to the vehicle,” said Anthony Murray, CSR’s automotive product marketing manager. “Early adopters like Nissan have leveraged this technology to add value to in-car telematics and infotainment systems. Bluetooth adds the flexibility for telematics and infotainment designers to remove the wired connections while ensuring compatibility with a maximum number of mobile phones and easy integration into new car models."

CSR is now producing its fourth-generation BlueCore devices. BlueCore4 supports the enhanced data rate (EDR) standard that was ratified at the end of 2004.
