Magna, Mobileye partner on headlamp controller/LDW system

Jul 20, 2006 2:24 PM

Magna Electronics has teamed with Mobileye Vision Technologies to develop a combined automatic high beam/low beam headlamp controller (AHC) and lane departure warning (LDW) system integrated into a single-camera system. To that end the firms will pair Mobileye's EyeQ vision image processor-on-a-chip with Magna’s camera and automatic headlamp control software.

Using the same camera and image-processing system to analyze images and monitor road lane markings, the system will automatically switch headlamps from high beams to low beams based on traffic conditions, and will also provide audio or tactile alerts to warn against unintentional lane departures.

Mobileye has LDW and collision mitigation programs scheduled to launch in 2007. Magna Electronics has an AHC program scheduled to launch in 2007. Magna Electronics is also using Mobileye's EyeQ in another major customer product launch scheduled for 2007.
