Infineon has agreed to license FlexRay transceiver intellectual property from austriamicrosystems, which will continue to market its AS8221 bus transceiver IC. Bernhard Czar, austriamicrosystems’ director of automotive marketing, said the license agreement with Infineon provides a second source for the AS8221 and “also holds the chance of speeding up the development of future transceiver devices.”

Georg Lipperer, senior director of marketing for Automotive Power in Infineon’s Automotive, Industrial and Multimarket business unit, said the license deal with austriamicrosystems enables Infineon to offer a FlexRay bus system including the transceiver and the stand-alone FlexRay protocol controller CIC310.
