Fujitsu introduces FlexRay controller, 32-bit MCUs

Sep 15, 2005 1:21 PM

Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. has introduced the FlexRay 2.0 controller and 32-bit microcontrollers for automotive applications.

The FlexRay controller, MB88121, is an application-specific standard product that supports FlexRay version 2.0. Packaged in an LQFP-64 and based on IP developed by Robert Bosch GmbH, the MB88121 delivers 10 Mb/s bandwidth over two channels and provides fault-tolerant, deterministic data transmission as required for engine control, braking and steering subsystems.

"Embedding FlexRay IP into real silicon will allow early adapters to design a range of automotive electronic-control applications at production grade," said Keith Horn, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Fujitsu Microelectronics America.

Horn said the MB88121 can be connected directly to existing CPUs, enabling the development of production systems that use a next-generation network, while simultaneously maximizing the performance of equipment already in the vehicle. Internal speeds reach 80 MHz, with a 4, 5, 8 and 10 MHz external oscillator, or by external clock. The chip's parallel interface affords a maximum frequency of 33 MHz.

Fujitsu's MB91270 MCUs integrate a 32-bit CPU core with a multilevel communications interface that supports 11 channels. Designed for automotive applications, they support both CAN and LIN networks. Applications include vehicle airbag sensors, anti-lock braking systems, vehicle air conditioners and other safety and comfort systems. Each MCU also incorporates a 24-channel AD converter for analog signal input from sensors, and deliver the speed and overall performance required to manage 11 channels of simultaneous data input.
