Fujitsu Microelectronics America Inc. has introduced an Intelligent Transportation System Data Bus-1394 (IDB-1394)-compliant device comprising physical and link layers with an integrated 1394 controller.

The MB88387 connects video and audio to vehicle displays from head units, DVD players, navigation systems, cameras, amplifiers or other devices. Conforming to the IDB-1394 standard developed jointly by the IDB Forum and the 1394 Trade Association, the MB88387 incorporates the 1394b PHY and link in a single chip, along with the digital transmission content protection (DTCP) standard that prohibits unauthorized copying or transmission of protected A/V content. The controller supports IEC61883 AV protocols for smooth audio and video stream playback.

The chip operates at 3.3 V (I/O) with internal voltage of 1.8 V and supports data transfer rates up to 400 Mbps. The PHY layer supports two 1394b/S400 ports, and the DTCP function allows encryption or decryption of two data streams simultaneously. Systems networked using the MB88387 can transmit audio and video throughout the vehicle at distances up to 100 meters.

The MB88387 comes in a 176-pin, 24-mm square, LQFP (FPT-176P-M07) package, and is available for sampling.
