BMW licenses Microchip’s SmartShunt power monitoring technology

Jan 18, 2006 4:05 PM

BMW AG has licensed SmartShunt battery-monitoring sensor technology from Microchip Technology Inc.

"By making the SmartShunt technology patents available for license, we hope to enable the expanded use of integrated current sensors in all automotive designs,” said Ganesh Moorthy, vice president of Microchip's Advanced Microcontroller and Memory Division. Microchip acquired the technology in 2002 when it purchased PowerSmart Inc.
