Comfortable Operation for More Safety

Jul 1, 2005 12:00 PM

The automotive supplier Siemens VDO Automotive AG is developing a network of driver assistance systems that will actively warn the driver of the risk of accidents and free him or her from routine tasks. A sophisticated system of sensors will help alleviate the dreaded problem of the “blind spot,” improve vision during twilight and at night and simplify lane changing on the freeway even in dense traffic. In the future, a traffic jam assistant will make stop-and-go situations easier to cope with, and automatic parking in narrow parking spaces will no longer be science fiction within a few years.

In order to ensure that drivers also use the new systems, Siemens VDO Automotive is placing great value on driver-friendly operation during the development of its new assistance functions. Every development team, therefore, consists not only of electronics experts, but also specialists in ergonomics.
