Dear Electronics Marketer,

For those of us who market to automotive engineers, we know our most important task is to understand what critical issues they are assessing and be there at that moment in time!

The July/August issue of Auto Electronics offers such an opportunity. From the cover feature on telematics, the special report on Chassis, the latest on sensors and Infotainments, this issue offers you the chance to get in front of the electronics automotive engineers as they make decisions regarding products and services crucial for their next design win..

Good business marketers intuitively have a feel for the consequential. With only two months to go before the Convergence Show, our readers are setting their priorities now.

Read the lineup in this issue and call me today to secure a place for your advertising message in this important issue

COVER FEATURE: …..Telematics/In-Vehicle Navigation
Telematics can save lives, but can it sell cars?

Telematics technology is available for deployment and is beginning to gain momentum in the market. OEMs are moving ahead with vehicle-to-vehicle communication; a capability that promises to add an extra layer of safety for the driver. Telematics can save lives, but can it sell cars? This cover report by John Day, Contributing Editor, looks at the critical issues that automakers are assessing when they decide what services to offer. Additionally, the article will also look at the latest telematics products, including chips and systems.

Special report: ……Chassis
Electric Power Steering Provides Fuel Savings and More

There are several motor control approaches to electrically assist or directly control power steering. Systems such as electric power assisted steering (EPAS) work with the vehicle’s hydraulic systems. Newer electric power steering (EPS) systems eliminate the hydraulic portion.  Initially developed for their fuel saving potential, either EPAS or EPS systems are required instead of belt-driven hydraulic systems on hybrid vehicles where the engine is off at idle. In addition, EPS is an integral part of advanced stability control systems. In this report, Randy Frank, Contributing Editor, will address the control, sensing, and power aspects of these rapidly increasing systems.

Design Feature 1…..Security/Sensors
Advances in sensor technologies augment automotive systems

This staff written report will bring the latest in automotive sensors from the papers given at this year’s Automotive Sensor Symposium during the Sensors Expo & Conference in Chicago, IL.  From safety to driver information, this report will present new technologies for improving design of present and future automotive systems.

Design Feature 2….Infotainment
Car stereo architectures ride DSPs into the software era

As MP3 audio compression and CD technologies grow more popular, consumers increasingly want the convenience and functionality they enjoy at home to be just as available in mobile venues, particularly in their cars. To meet this demand, automobile manufacturers are well on their way to replacing analog solutions with digital media processing technologies to make the driving experience more pleasant and productive. In this article, Joe Thomassen, Director of Marketing and Strategy, Car Entertainment Business LIne, Philips Semiconductors, presents the continuing role of DSPs in transforming the infotainment systems of modern and upcoming automobiles.

Design Feature 3…….Body Electronics
Blind Spots and Backing Up: Choosing the Right Display is Critical
With the amount of information presented to the driver in modern cars, the display has become an important part of the dashboard. Hence, the designer must take into consideration a wide range of issues when developing displays for automotive use. Author Dale Maunmu, Optrex America, Inc., examines concerns when using such displays with rear view camera system for blind spots and backing up.
